The Science curriculum has three interrelated strands: Science Understanding, Science Inquiry Skills and Science as a Human Endeavour. These strands provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding through which they can develop a scientific view of the world. All staff at Heathridge Primary School follow a whole school approach to teaching Science using the Primary Connections resources. Students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 are assessed against the standard for each year level using both the Primary Connections rubrics alongside the SCSA judging standards. Students in Kindergarten integrate their science learning using hands-on activities related to classroom themes.
The key strands of Science Understanding and Science Inquiry Skills are developed through a semester long focus on each strand. A purpose built Science Room and a fully stocked and well maintained Science storeroom ensures that adequate resources and materials can be easily sourced for all topics and classes.
